
CONSTELLATION BRANDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Jennifer Santiago is a June, 2009 Graduate of East High School. Jennifer is said to be, by her teachers an extraordinary student and person. She has written a book on her own. She has taken five advanced placement courses, and has done well in each. She is also a student in the Teaching and Learning Institute, which is a magnet program that prepares students for college and transitions into careers in education. She is a member of Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Teachers. Jennifer has worked over the summer. She helps a science teacher with a group of students who speak primarily Spanish to learn the content they are required to master for the course. Jennifer has designed her own classroom and works one on one with these students translating science terminology. Mr. Newman, Jennifer’s AP Biology teacher says that she always works well with others; she is open minded and cooperative. She has always had an interest in the criminal justice field, ever since she watched her first episode of law and order. Around mid April East High School seniors had a guest speaker come in to the building. One of the speakers was a U.S. Marshall and also an African American female. Jennifer says “it arose a new sense of pride in her.” Jennifer stayed and had an hour long discussion with the Marshall. Jennifer will be attending Monroe Community College and then Buffalo State College studying to become a U.S. Marshall- Witness protection.
Anaid Nieves is a June, 2009 graduate of East High School. During her high school years she struggled to learn the material, but worked twice as hard to do well. Anaid has a learning disability; she says that she is a slow learner. Despite her learning disability she has maintained high honor roll her entire senior year. This young lady at one point doubted that she would be able to graduate in four years, because of her learning disability. She say’s that by setting goals and not being afraid of hard work, she has become disciplined. Anaid graduated in less than four years after she began earning high school credits, this was a goal and now is an achievement of hers that she is very proud of. Anaid’s teachers describe her as being very self motivated and say she has a very positive attitude. Anaid is a member of the Teaching Learning Institute, which is a magnet program that prepares students for college and transitions into careers in education. She will be attending Monroe community College to study criminal justice
