About the K9 Initiative

ALL MEDIA AND K9 INQUIRIES TO:  jpalumbo@rochester.rr.com

Since 2014, Rochester Area CRIME STOPPERS K9 Initiative has provided financial support for
nearly 30 local K9s from Rochester Police Department; Monroe County Sheriff’s Office; Greece
Police Department; Brockport Police Department; and the 2024 newly-added Irondequoit
Police Department K9 Team.
The K9s wear a badge upon completion of extensive training and single- or dual-purpose
certification. These highly trained and beloved dogs are in constant demand to track lost
children and the elderly; detect explosives, illegal weapons and dangerous narcotics; and
protect the lives of police officers as well as the public. K9s provide an unparalleled degree of
service to the community 24/7.
The Crime Stoppers K9 Initiative assists with the purchase of new puppies, emergency
veterinary expenses for ill and injured K9s as well as providing upgrades and equipment for the
RPD K9 Obstacle Course and the MCSO K9 Obstacle Course. K9 units throughout Monroe
County and neighboring counties utilize the obstacle courses for training and certification. The
K9 Obstacle Courses are in continual use and provide a safe training and exercise environment
for the dogs. Obstacle course maintenance and upgrades have been provided by CountryMax
Stores with additional help from the Eagle Scouts.
Fundraisers are held throughout the year to support the growing needs of local K9 units. If you
would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the CRIME STOPPERS K9 INITIATIVE, please
click on the Donate Button, select the K9 Fund, and make sure to specify “K9s” in the
comment section.
